The workshop begins with a one-hour walk through the woods and countryside surrounding the agriturismo, learning to recognize and collect wild herbs, plants, and flowers.
Then, using a printing press, you’ll press and print leaves and petals onto watercolor paper.
You’ll learn how to adjust the pressure of the press depending on the moisture content of each plant.
Next, you’ll move on to using pencils, pens, and brushes.
Nature imprinted on the page becomes both inspiration and guide, helping to complete the artwork—even for those who don’t consider themselves artistically gifted!
The next day is all about experimentation. You’ll work with natural dyes made from seasonal vegetables, fruit, berries, wine, and vinegar to create unique colors.
You’ll also learn how to adapt a pasta machine to replace the printing press and create bookmarks or greeting cards.
All art materials will be provided: one watercolor paper sketchbook per day, various test papers for printing, pencils, brushes, and access to a printing press.
The watercolor course is held on-site by Francesco Marzetti, a local artist and expert in the traditions and nature of the area. He holds a Fine Arts diploma and is known as an “herb alchemist” in the world of art.
